Yew Tree House is our first home in Woodhouses, Staffordshire, to be opened. The
project took many months from start to finish, but we are delighted with the results.
Much care and thought went into the design and build process, reflected in the
home’s look and feel.
At Yew Tree, we believe that children in our care should have the same opportunities
as everyone else: at home, school, and society.
We understand that some of our children may express themselves in a manner that
requires an extra layer of compassion, patience, and understanding because of their
lived experiences. Yew Tree House has been established to help children navigate
their complex emotional dynamics.
The home offers a safe, nurturing, and empowering community where the child can
develop, learn, and thrive in a therapeutic environment. We want the child to feel
secure, loved, and happy with a strong and loving network of relationships, to
discover and realise their skills and talents, and to have high aspirations for the
future.
We want the child to feel included and proud of their culture, religion, and
identity. We cook together, share celebrations, and participate in local community activities to
learn about others in society.
We see children as rich in potential and actively involved in
decisions about their lives and futures. We encourage all children to play an active
part in the management of Yew Tree House, from the physical environment, decor,
and use of the space to the food, activities, and daily routines. Young people help
recruit staff and change our ways of working.
Play is one of our core values, and we believe having fun and doing
things together are vital for establishing trusting relationships, well-being, and
learning. We go on holiday as a group and do new activities together.
We support children in staying connected with family
and friends. There is help accessing health services to ensure good physical and
psychological health. We aim for children to stay with us for a medium to long period
so we have time to develop solid relationships, and so children feel well supported.
We carefully plan for their welcome to the home and for when they move on.
We offer bespoke therapy in the home. We actively
listen to children and give them lots of opportunities to express themselves and
explore emotions. We offer life story work if the child wishes for this to happen.
When children come to live at Yew Tree House, they are matched
with a key worker on the staff team. The key worker is responsible for getting to
know them and addressing their essential provisions daily.
We focus on learning and reflection in the home and support children’s
holistic growth in all aspects of their lives so that they can thrive, have fun, and enjoy
a good childhood in the present.
We help to establish relationships with schools, colleges, and local companies to
help with education and work experience.
Yew Tree House has been refurbished to the highest standards. Each
young person has a well-proportioned bedroom with a desk for private study, and
children are encouraged to decorate and arrange their rooms to reflect their tastes
and preferences.
